Bus Accidents

There are several reasons why a bus accident may occur. The majority of bus accidents involve poor bus maintenance, lack of bus driver training, poor weather conditions, negligence, and/or reckless driving on behalf of the bus driver or another driver.

The passengers on a bus are often the powerless victims. If you’ve been injured, or your child has been injured or killed in a school bus accident or other forms of bus accident, it’s imperative you protect your legal rights and any options you may have in personal injury or wrongful death case.

“I have never done this before but Samin is one of the rare people you meet in this lifetime who legitimately care about you more than herself. I was out of work, In excruciating pain every day, and had pretty much given up. A friend of mine recommended her and I figured I didn’t have anything to lose. They laid my options out, presented the risk and at the end of the day I think that’s all any of us are looking for. We were able to secure a more than favorable settlement and slowly I have been able to focus on my health and my family. This is all thanks to their patience, dedication, and hard work.”

Bus Accident Liability

Understanding liability issues is the first step towards determining fault. A bus driver should be fully qualified and well trained before operating a bus. Operating a commercial bus, school bus, shuttle bus, or any type of public bus, for that matter requires proper training. Bus drivers are responsible for their passenger’s lives, and if a driver is found liable, they will be accountable for any damages caused by a bus crash.

If you or a loved one has survived a serious bus accident, you’re likely facing expensive medical bills, lost wages, and a lengthy physical and emotional recovery. Contact our offices today to discuss whether you have a viable case. Any attorney you hire should be knowledgeable and have experience with bus accident claims. There are many specific regulations related to all forms of buses, from school buses to Greyhounds, church buses, tour buses and other forms of public transportation.

School Bus Accidents

School bus-related crashes killed 117 people nationwide in 2018, according to National Safety Council (NSC) tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). A school bus-related crash is defined by NHTSA as any crash in which a vehicle, regardless of body design, used as a school bus is directly or indirectly involved. This includes incidents involving school children getting in or out of a vehicle.

From 2009 to 2018, about 70% of the deaths in school bus-related crashes were occupants of vehicles other than the school bus, and 17% were pedestrians. About 5% were school bus passengers, 4% were school bus drivers, and 2% were pedal cyclists. Of the people injured in school bus-related crashes from 2008 to 2018, about 36% were school bus passengers, 8% were school bus drivers, and 51% were occupants of other vehicles. The remainder were pedestrians, pedal cyclists, and other or unknown.
